Understanding, criticising, creating: this is our aim at the yearly AMS Camp. It takes place on a camping site near the small town of St. Georgen in southern Germany's famous Black Forest. We want to create an autonomous and self-governed space with lectures, workshops and cultural events engaging in political discussions and analyses. We critizise capitalism, nationalism and patriarchy.
THIS YEAR, Registration to the Camp is obligatory!
The registration form is not in English, yet. If you do not have an AI-tool or a person to support you with translation, please provide only your Name & Email at the top, scroll to the bottom where it says "Was ist ... + ..." and enter the sum of the two numbers and then click "ANMELDEN!". Or contact us via Email.
Also: Komm vorbei!
August 2025 in St. Georgen.
Gebt die genauen Tage einfach bei der Anmeldung an.
Participation
Every interaction during the Camp, including reproductive activities such as cooking and cleaning or organisational tasks, are a means for us of enhancing our political self-reflection. Of course, there is also plenty of room for socialising and for a range of other activities that happen daily on stages, in tents, and in the forest: theatrical and musical performances, art installations, practical workshops, parties, dance-floors and more. There is also a programme for kids.
What can I do?
The AMS relies on everyone’s participation. We need your support with building and setting up stages, tents and bars before the Camp, as well as with cooking, cleaning or translating discussions during the Camp. At the central Info-Point tent you can sign up for your favourite activity and help run the AMS. Besides reproductive tasks, there is also technical stuff, security and awareness shifts to be filled.
If you are interested in supporting the AMS throughout the year, during set-up or after the camp, contact the Organising Team: ams-camp ( ät ) fest-spiel-haus.de
A camp for everyone!
We want the AMS to be a place where everyone feels comfortable and accepted. However, we live in a society where sexism, racism, anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination and oppression are part of everyday life. Even at the AMS and other events with an emancipatory claim, discrimination happens. Our response to this issue is to maximise awareness and to take a firm stance against any acts of discrimination or abuse. We have two established awareness structures - on access-point and the RadicalCareGang (RCG), who are approachable at all times during the Camp. You can also contact any bar at all times.
Accessibility
The AMS site is located in the middle of a forest. Most of it is meadow, and it is on a slope. We are aware that barriers can be very diverse and different from each other. We are aware that barriers can be very diverse and different people have different needs. We have therefore tried to describe the terrain and the conditions as good as possible. You find the information here. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us or call us during the set up. To the best of our ability, we will try to respond to you individually and describe other conditions as needed. However, please understand that we cannot change the premises themselves. E-mail: ams (at) fest-spiel-haus.de
Language
We strive to allow access to non-German speakers in all our programme. However, we have to admit that a lot of the lectures and spoken-word performances are in German. We work on having most Camp-related displays bi-lingual (German and English) and on offering translation-corners during the daily announcements. For this we require everyone's participation. Let us know during the announcements, if you need a translation! The workshops and discussions are organised independently, often there are simultaneous translations available from other participants, some may even switch into English. Let the lecturers/organisers know at the beginning what you need. If you are interested in giving translations during the Camp or have ideas and feedback, please let us know.
Program
Workshops
The program is a diverse mix of workshops and lectures. Many are suitable for beginners, while others delve deeper into the topics. We aim to cover a wide range of current political events as well as long-standing left-wing issues. There are different Workshop Categories, some are specifically in English. If you're interested in the German workshops, there is an option for translation. Unfortunately, we did not manage to translate the German teasers.
Waldbühne
At the Waldbühne, we present a diverse program of theater, readings, cabaret, performances, and concerts. There's also something for our younger guests during daytime!
Punxpalast
If you get caught up in a pogo, it's not your own fault; it's the circumstances! At Punxpalast, the most important body part isn't your elbow, but your furiously pounding punk heart. Our contribution to emancipation and exchange: loud music, warm beer, and the chance for a little education during the day.
Stylehang
This year, Stylehang will once again be hosted by the feminist DJ collective Tübingen (fak_tue). FAK was founded to shake up the male-dominated DJ scene. It acts as a network to support other Flintas in their DJing, break down barriers, and get active together. Our musical lineup ranges from garage punk, hip hop, funk, soul, to drum 'n' bass and techno. Our music is as diverse as our members*.
Kids Space
As every year, Kids are welcome at the AMS! However, there will be no pre-arranged childcare. This year, no group or individual was found in advance to organize the KidsSpace during the camp or to provide childcare. The space itself will still be there, where children can play, craft, romp, chill, and connect to their heart's content. A basic supply of materials will be provided. With your commitment, imagination, and personal responsibility, an exciting place is sure to emerge. There will be a bulletin board at the KidsSpace where you can post all the relevant information about your offering, such as the type, location, time, and maximum number of participants. Perhaps you'd also like to connect for shared childcare by the hour or a discussion group with caregivers. The possibilities are countless, the motto is clear: DIY or boredom! If you are interested in helping to set up the Kids Space, please write to us: ams-kidsspace (at) riseup.net
Café
At the café stand for fighters and coffee lovers, there will be Zapatista coffee, tables for relaxing and chatting, and musical and artistic programs on Friday and Saturday.

Frequently Asked Questions
Take the Train (Schwarzwaldbahn from Karlsruhe KA to Konstanz KN) to “St. Georgen (Schwarzwald)”. From there, a self-organized pick-up service will pick you up during the camp. If you are coming beforehand to help with the camp setup, you can call us at +49 07484 92 999 31 starting from August 16 2025. We will be happy to pick you up at the train station!
If you are coming by car,
If you have space in your car (or are looking for a ride), feel free to sign up on this DIY-carpooling-pad:
Keep in mind that anyone with the link can view the contents.
Otherwise, there is also blablacar, bessermitfahren, etc.
The shuttle cars are at the train station on the hour starting at 11 a.m. from Thursday to Saturday. On Sunday, even earlier at 8 a.m. You don't need to register for this service.
Shuttles leave the camp on half hours so your arrive at the station on time for trains at the full hour. Ususally they leave until 11:30 p.m. Saturdays only till 9:30 p.m.
Of course, you are most welcome! You will find many other people who speak English and other languages at the camp, as well as people who only speak German.
However, it is important to know that the workshop program is mainly in German.
We strive at offering 1-2 workshops in English during each workshop-slot. Also, we try our best to offer translations for as many German workshops as possible and necessary! This year, our Translation Crew has organised technical equipment to boost the whisper translations with headphones. Members of the Crew will be present during camp setup. And there will be a “Translation Station” near the tent-kitchen where the workshops are being announced. There you can request translation for a specific workshop. If not offered already, you can also mention your need at the beginning of a workshop. Other languages can be requested as well, however this is subject to availability of capable translators.
Please note, that we cannot guarantee to meet your needs at all times. Our pool of translators is still quite small, yet we are constantly trying to improve our methods.
So, feel free to contact us if you have any further questions, would like to share feedback, or perhaps even join us! You will find more information at the InfoPoint.
AMS is non-commercial and thrives on the “collective initiative” of all participants. This means that all tasks that are important for a relaxed weekend are shared among the participants. They include helping out at the Kitchen for All, at the bar, at the Welcome Tent, in Awareness structures, with cleaning, and many more.
We don't want any outbreaks of disease due to dirty toilets or tents falling over because no one has tightened them, so we organise the self-management a little: On site, all visitors sign up for shifts directly at the Info Point!
By the way: we also set up and dissemble the camp together: those who can, come earlier or stay longer – or both! For dissembling there are also shifts displayed at the Info Point.
Yes! There is a vegan Kitchen for All, that provides participants with three vegan, regional and seasonal meals a day. They cook for all on a donation basis. Money that exceeds the expenses will be donated to other emancipatory resistance projects. The recommended donation per person per day is 8-12€.
The AMS camp is for people aged 16 and above. Those under the age of 18 are only permitted to stay if accompanied by a legal guardian or a person responsible for their education, who must also remain on the premises for the entire duration of the AMS camp. This person must be able to prove their legitimacy, for which the AMS provides the following form. The form must be completed and signed by a parent and you can find it hier >>>
Unfortunately, spots for caravans are very limited on the site - und usually booked.
You can book a bed at the Kesselberghaus: you must register directly with the property management: info [at] kesselberghaus.de.
Please mention AMS 2025, your name, and the days on which you would like to sleep in a bed. A rate of €15 per person per night has been agreed with them. The Kesselberghaus is at 3.2 km distance from the camp venue (along the road).
Just send us an email at ams-camp [at] fest-spiel-haus.de with your address and how many you’d like, and we will be happy to send you posters and flyers!
We’re happy about everybody arriving to help with the set-up until Tuesday before the camp. So feel free to come two days before camp starts. However, arriving on Wednesday is not possible. This causes us and the kitchen more stress than it is helpful.
Of course not! We don't exclude anyone based on their finances. Just talk to our people at the Welcome Tent and you will receive a wristband and no one will ask you any questions.
Cool! Just get in touch with the Workshop Group and they’ll take care of all further communication: ams-workshops [at] riseup.net
No, you can’t. Firstly, dogs are not allowed on the camp grounds. Secondly, we have had almost exclusively bad experiences with dogs at the camp. How about finding a dog sitter?
Of course! Our camp generally appeals to younger guests, if only because of the sleeping arrangements on offer – tents. But the AMS is specifically not a festival where only 16-year-olds go around senselessly. We are particularly interested in political exchange and discussions - you're never too old for that! So we are happy about you coming.
We can also offer beds in the Kesselberghaus (http://kesselberghaus.de/). The house is about three kilometers away from the camp site and usually has to be reached by yourself. Please contact us if you need beds or have a look at the FAQ “I can't sleep in a tent, now what...”
Yes, at AMS we consciously offer children and families a space. There’s the physical kids space where you can meet other parents & kids and exchange yourselves – if organized, there are also childcare options during workshop times.
We have also been offering a Kidscamping for several years, which brings together families and provides a pavilion for night watches. The routes are manageable. With a wireless baby monitor or one with a large range, you can also enjoy a bit of time for yourselves in the evening, depending on your children's sleep.
This year, the Kids Space’ infrastructure is provided by the organising team. For the set-up and childcare program, we are still dependent on support! During the camp, you can act spontaneously and on your own responsibility. Contact us for more information or support: ams-kidsspace (at) riseup.net
The possibilities are endless, the motto is clear: D I Y or boredom!
We live in a society in which sexism, racism and other forms of discrimination and oppression are part of everyday life. Unfortunately, even spaces and events that claim to be emancipatory are not immune to attacks of this kind.
Incidentally, violent behavior is not only an obvious physical attack. It begins with (un)intentional border crossings and verbal attacks, e.g. through discriminatory statements or downplaying the perception of affected persons.
At the AMS, we want to support the wellbeing of all visitor through our structures. However, we cannot guarantee this and, above all, we cannot do it alone. The principle of our awareness concept therefore includes taking mutual responsibility: it is up to all of us to act attentively and responsibly. This also includes taking into account that each and every one of us may be in a position to exhibit abusive behavior and take criticism of our behavior seriously.
Whether you are dancing, flirting, arguing or waiting in line for lunch: pay attention to how you treat the people around you. Ideally also while intoxicated. This also applies to people’s individual needs on precautions regarding Covid 19 and other diseases. At AMS, we have different structures that can support you: Speak to the “Rosa Cäppies”, the people at the Awareness-Counter or somebody of the orga team if you notice negative behaviour or if you feel harassed or uncomfortable by the behaviour of others. There are also Walkie-Talkies at all Bars and the Info Point.
For more information, see FAQ “Where do I go if I feel uncomfortable at a situation the AMS?”
If you feel uncomfortable in a situation, don't be afraid to speak to us! You are always entitled to do so! At the AMS, we have direct contact options at all bars and with designated persons (AMSeln), which enable solidarity support. There is also a self-organized protection and awareness structure at the camp, which keeps an eye on the atmosphere at the camp and is always available for you.
The “Rosa Cäppies” (RadicalCareGang – short RCG) are mobile on the site and actively check whether people are doing well. They also get in touch with people who are using violence and stay in contact with the Awareness team.
The Awareness team has a permanent counter (pavilion on the camp) and an open ear. Here you can retreat for a short while, you will be listened to and your needs will be heard. This group works independently of the RCG and acts in the interests of the person concerned.
It is important for us to emphasize that these structures are neither a guarantee of safety nor is it their sole task to have everything under control. It is up to all of us to act attentively and responsibly, to intervene in the event of discriminatory behavior and to take any criticism we receive seriously.
Above all, it is important that people sign up for the shifts in these structures, as this is the only way we can offer them. On Thursday and/or Friday, there will be an introductory Awareness workshop for all interested people.
At the AMS Camp, we do try our best to minimise the amount of accessibility issues to allow everyone to participate in an equal capacity. However, we must admit, in certain circumstances we are very limited in what we can do.
Therefore, in this section of the FAQs, we will attempt to describe and explain the camp grounds and its surroundings, so that you may be able to better judge how accessible the AMS is for you.
Here are a couple of pictures of the ground, from which you can have a rough impression of the place. In our gallery (“Bilder” on the German Website), you can find more photos of the space.
The site is in the middle of the forest and most of the grounds are on a clearing that happens to be on a slope. This means that there are certain areas that are steeper than others, such as the access points to the stages. The camping- and trailer sites are easily accessible with no incline. There are 3 houses at the edge of the site, which are partially plastered and mostly have gravel surrounding them. The large cinema room is only accessible via a very steep ramp; however, the floors of the seminar rooms are even and can be accessed through a small bump.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a wheelchair accessible vehicle from the train station. However, there is a 7-seater bus with lots of space and storage, so that one can sit and store their wheelchair if necessary.
There is a wheelchair accessible portable washroom as well as a single shower in the bathhouse that is accessible via a ramp. There is also a shower chair onsite. The hallways are rather tight, alternatively there are also even floored group shower halls in the same building.
At camp, there are a few hundred people attending the camp. It’s often loud, especially in the evening with music from stages and tents. If you are in need of a quiet space or a small retreat from the noise, you can always use the Workshop tents and rooms to your convenience, so long as there aren’t any workshops taking place. The campgrounds are in the forest and surrounded by trees, where it is also relatively quiet. There’s also a quiet camping area in the forest, in between the trees (with roots). It is much quieter to sleep here, but not entirely silent. Alternatively, there’s also the possibility to rent a room in the Kesselberghaus. More information can be found in the section: “I can’t sleep in a tent, now what?”
As the camp takes place in the forest, it can be very dark at night. We do try our best to light up the paths and obstacles and during the events in the evening, light-based effects such as strobing lights are used. A smoke machine is sometimes used during certain performances.
We are aware that accessibility challenges come in all shapes and sizes and present themselves differently. If you have any further questions or inquiries, do write us an email or call us during set up. We will try to meet your needs individually and to advise you on the spaces and how you can enjoy the festival with as little worry as possible. However, please understand that we cannot change the camp ground itself.

We have been dealing with the Covid-19 epidemic even beyond the period of government measures. We realize that some people are vulnerable, but we no longer want to enforce regulatory measures. However, we expect our participants to have a positive acceptance towards protective measures such as social distancing or FFP2 masks and a basic awareness of the issue. We still request people who are ill not to come to the camp.
Every year, a lot of sweaters, t-shirts, shoes, sleeping bags and sometimes keys, jewellery and toiletry bags get left behind. Everything goes to Freiburg and kept until the end of the year. If you seem to have lost something, do contact: ams-camp [at] fest-spiel-haus.de per email.
In case you don’t live in Freiburg, and you don’t know anyone who lives there, we send your stuff for a fee ranging from 3-10€ depending on the size of the item. We can also bring items with us to the next camp. However, if we don’t hear back from you until the end of the year, all the left over stuff goes to a free-shop in Freiburg.
Once upon a time, when the AMS camp was still small and cute, it was known by the name “Action Mond und Sterne” (“Action, Moon and Stars”). With the passage of time, it was always referred to by its nickname: “AMS”
Nowadays, the festival has outgrown its old name and what used to be an abbreviation is now the proper name of the camp.
Anyways, “The name of a thing is entirely external to its nature. I know nothing about a person when I know that a person is called Jacobus.” (MEW 23)
